Re: The Dog Thread

Meet... Sampson. About 3 times a week I race him up a 200m... until I'm gassed. I used to be able to beat him, now he leaves me in the dust.

Re: The Dog Thread

This is our mighty dog, Suka. He's a terrior mix my roommates and I rescued from the village. He's a true Alaskan dog; he wa nursed back to health on salmon and carribou heart and he's teething on a moose bone right now.

We took him out skiing today and jokingly let him skijour with us. He is all of 12 pounds and pulled my roommate down into a spread eagle. Wish I had my camera then. He's also very helpful when I'm trying to do push ups, I get a wet kiss every time I come up, whether I like it or not.

Excellent choice on the diet, that is one lucky dog! What does his name mean?

Re: The Dog Thread

"Suka" means "fast" in Yup'ik, an Eskimo language spoken in Western Alaska. And he has truly lived up to his name with those long legs.

Re: The Dog Thread

I saw a great bumper sticker last night for those of us dog lovers in this world:

I want to be the person my dog thinks I am

Re: The Dog Thread

Out of the archives....this is one of my old dogs...on a book cover.

Husband and I found her on the freeway in Chicago, in the middle of winter. Nobody claimed her, so we kept her. She's been gone now for about 6 years or so. I can still distinctly remember how soft her fur was.

Everyone always thought she was some kind of husky mix. But, she was only 24 lbs! Have no idea what she was. I still miss her.
