I have had the best luck with the cheapest, simplest jumpropes. The PVC cord with 5 inch long black plastic handles. Simple and cheap.

This style from Valeo (safe link): hop-sports-mp-20&creative=380345&creativeASIN=B000A3W442&linkCod e=asm

I second that. The cheaper ropes are faster for double-unders.

I have this one (WFS), and for $12 it's the fastest jumprope I've seen. Makes a cool whirring noise during double unders, sure to impress friends.

I started out with a weighted jump rope thinking that itd be more of a challenge. its not. its slow and clunky. I bought an old school leather one and really like it, but a speed rope is next. Jumping rope is a fun, relatively new challenge for me. I generally use it to warm up wit before my WOD.
