Yesterday tragedy struck when in the middle of an Olympic lifting workout in my garage the vibrations from dropping snatches caused one of my kegs to fall over and land on my trusty workout partner of 5 years my Polar S610 HRM.:rip:

Anyway now i'm in the market for a new HRM / workout watch.

I see two basic options

1. But a cheap watch and forget about the HRM functions which i rarely used but which occasionally come in handy for training clients etc

2. Buy a new all singing all dancing HRM. This option provides a difficult choice as to what features to get. I really like the Polar downloadable HRMs but i'm not a big runner and i don;t have time to do much cycling so i'm leaning toward something like the Polar outdoors models or something with a GPS.

Has anyone got suggestions for what to buy or experience with any of the top end monitors they can share?

I have used Nike, Timex, and Polar, all with good results. I like you find most of the features irrelevant, but interesting to have. The Timex was the easiest to use, and I believe they make one with a GPS. Look on Amazon. as to cost--you mentioned clients so I would assume you can take this as a business expense, which I would certainly do, and thus, depending on your income bracket, save you something like 30% of the cost. Also, if you are using it professionally there may be soem kind of special deal for you in return for your use of the product with potential new customers (for the watch company). Thanks, Bill

I use the Timex Ironman OVA almost exclusively. This is the watch that sits sideways on your wrist, very viewable and comfortable. It does not get in the way for pushups, HSPU, pullups, etc. The split button is large and easy to use. Here's their site, WFS:

The other watch I use if I care to monitor/record my heartrate is the Suunto T6. I really like this watch, it's pricey though. I normally use this for single run efforts, 5 and 10k, some of the metcons that are running intesive, soccer occasionaly. The software allows you to download the data and you might find it useful for comparison to past performances. Their site, also WFS:
