BJ working with Marv Marinovich

Checked out the latest blog on BJ Penn today and he's working with Marv Marinovich (pre-camp) in San Clemente. I thought that was pretty interesting. I think BJ really needs to take his strength training to the next level and this might be a good start.

I must admit I don't have a clue who Marv Marinovich is. BJ seems to have a hard time embracing a training method and staying with it.

I think BJ Penn should do some good 'ol wrestling strength and conditioning.

Maybe he's doing training with a renowned speed guy since St. Pierre beat him to the punch.

Marv Marinovich is a former player for the Raiders and their former S&C coach and head talent scout. Among his scouting picks were Howie Long. Most teams didn't think he had the talent but Marv did. He's also the father of former NFL QB Todd Marinovich

Re: BJ working with Marv Marinovich

The video pretty much verifies what I found on the website. They are working on balance, coordination, and skill work. As far as I can tell, these were already BJ's strengths. I know there is more to his program but it makes me wonder.

Re: BJ working with Marv Marinovich

It's basically that, but the science behind it is more complex. The theory is that if the body is retrained to work as nature designed it to, in the correct coordinated way you'l be more functionally strong then you would from other methods of lifting. It's a similar concept to movement naturale. I've read the probodx book it's intersting stuff. In the end though it won't help BJ train the biggest aspect lacking in his training, the mental toughness to keep going when he can't easily win.

At least he's got a rower in there, but I don't see how all of that balance training is going to get him conditioned for a fight. that blog vid almost seemed like a joke, is it a joke?
