My advice to anyone interested in getting impressive gymnastic ability at home is to get yourself a set a parallettes and go to

I'm only doing the basic exercises (minus the pirouettes - won't be doin them for a while!!), but the improvement in both my upperbody/trunk strength and muscle development is nothing short of incredible considering the relatively short training time (about a month).
I got my parallettes made for me out of wood for the base and steel tubing - they were based on the ones at american gymnast.

These things rock and the exercises are challenging enough to give real satisfaction on completing them.

Give 'em a go.

You absoulutely must have a set of parallettes.

The March CFJ reviews push-up/handstand push-up technique, progression, and goals as a prepartation to the amazing presses to handstand. I can't overstate the return on this endeavor. You only think you have upper body strength before you play with ring and parallel bar exercises.

This manner of work is to the upper body as the essential Olympic lifts are to the core.
