Thumbs up Mike's Workout Log and Paleo Kit Diet Experiment!

I am Mike Carbone from Crossfit Tribe in Cherry Hill/Pennsauken area in southern NJ. I started crossfit in April of 2008 and have been working hard to achieve my personal bests in different areas. I am coming off a 2-3 week break of working out and have just started the Paleo kit diet provided by Crossfit Tribe. The first day was not too bad. I did however get hungry at night because I am used to eating late, but held back.

Personal Bests with room for improvements.
Squat - 215lb.
Deadlift - 295lb.
Shoulder Press - 145lb.

Wednesday 1/14/09

Workout
Front Squats 5x3 at 185lbs.
then...
20-15-10 (Time 7:28)
Power Cleans (65lb.)
Thigh Touches
Mountain Climbs
Pushups

Felt good to get back in the gym, but man was I feeling it today. I miss this feeling, but know I will hate the next few days until the pains stop.

Diet

Drink only tea up til the afternoon and water all day
Fasted until done workout
2:15 Large Paleo Kit
4:30 Large Paleo Kit
7:30 Dinner - One turkey sausage link with about a cup of steamed broccoli

Felt good eating this diet on the first day. I had a few temptations, but resisted because I want to stick with it for a few months to get into a healthy exercising and dieting regime. I had tried before but failed because I am one who doesn't like to weigh out my food. I find it easier to have the food prepared before hand and just eat what I should in 2-3 hr. intervals.

Day 2 - Thursday 1/15/09

Workout - 1:00

Warm-up 1000m row in approx. 4 min, then 500m row in approx 2 1/2 min

5 rds. in 14:13

30 box jumps
7 shoulder presses (95lb.)

This was a great workout. The box jumps were the worst part and I am definitely feeling it again all over.

Diet

Drank tea in a.m. and water all day.

10:30 medium Paleo kit
2:15 XL Paleo kit after workout
5:30 One Turkey sausage link w/ a cup of broccoli
7:45 Medium Paleo kit

The Paleo kits seem to satisfy my food cravings for the day. Even though I don't go to sleep til 1am, I still do not have any hunger pains after 8pm. Looks like it should be a good diet for me to stick to since I have it all prepared.

Warm-up 1000m row in 4:15

3x8
Overhead squats - 75, 75, 85
Bench press - 155, 165, 175
Push Press - 95, 105, 115
Sumo deadlift high pulls - 95, 115, 125

Diet

Water and tea all day

10:30 - Medium Paleo kit
2:30 - Large Paleo kit
5:30 - Large Paleo kit
7:30 - Pork chop and 1 and half cup of brussel sprouts

Saturday 1/17/09

Workout - Off

Diet

Water and tea all day

11:30 - Large Paleo kit
1:30 - 1 1/2 cup brussel sprouts
3:45 - cheat - 5 buff wings with celery and crap dip w/ pita chips
7:30 - Large Paleo kit

Night - White Tequila w/ orange juice

Sunday 1/18/09

Workout - off

Diet

Black coffee in am and water and tea all day

12:30 - Large Paleo kit
3:30 6 - 7oz Beers
5:30 - 1/2 of Large Paleo kit
7:30 - Cheat Large chicken sandwich and 1/2 garden salad

I was allowed to cheat twice a week and used them on the weekend. I went a little overboard on Sunday but will make up for it all week at the gym.

Hi Mike,
I'm Alycia, Justin's girlfriend, and part-time CF Tribe member.
I found your log from Erin's.

I had my first PaleoKit today. I gotta say, it DOES have all the components of a great meal or mini meal (as intended) AND it tastes sooo good ( lil bit of sweet, lil bit of salty). But twice daily? Thats a ton!

How long are you planning to carry out this "experiment" ?
Do you have "before" pictures and measurements?

I'm intrigued.
Can't wait to hear how it all turns out....

15 barbell rollouts
15 deadlifts at 185lbs.

5:00 sushi
7:00 Asparagus



I have been trying my best to add more and more vegatables because I am allowed a lot of them. As for eating the paleo kits all day, I actually love it because I do not have to make anything or weigh anything.

I forgot to post my starting measurements to see my progress in a few weeks or months.

waist (one inch below belly button) 38 in
Chest 39 in
arms 13 1/4 in
thigh 21 1/2 in
Neck 15 1/4 in

Height 5ft 8in
Weight 195lbs.

Trying to reach 180-185 lbs.
