Offseason - "Superteams" Open style Competition

I feel this needs it's own thread

Castro talks here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CQTIbWKmWo

Really seems to be a direct play against GRID

The talk of sponsorships and athletes marketing themselves to the highest bidder etc

Not sure how it is going to play out in the open format though

The open format isn't very visual for the most part

yes it is a small answer to the Grid. Tony B took away a bunch of stuff and is using it.. fair competition is always good. I am sure that the 15' wall balls, forward rolls to a muscle up.. stuff like that was in the books for the games. I think that its a great idea to have the Crossfit Games type who are not doing the Grid to the Team things. People like the Super Teams stuff.. will be fun to watch. Good for HQ to do something more.

It appears that GRID is also giving HQ some ideas for future programming at the Regionals and Games level for both the individual and team comps. Forward roll MU's, 15' wallball with 30lb ball, weighted TTB, ect...

Here are 2 more SuperTeams I found by looking through the list of registered teams:

Team Reebok North: Austin Malleolo, Kelley Jackson, Michelle Letendre, Craig Kenney.

Team Reebok West: Tommy Hackenbruck, Lindsey Valenzuela, Noah Ohlsen, Valerie Voboril,

Re: Offseason - "Superteams" Open style Competition

So, is this our official Team Series thread?

Anyone else doing it? They've release 3 out of 4 WODs for this weekend so far, the last one will come out sometime today. I'm really dreading the Franish one, lots of CTB pullups. I think this will be a fun thing to do overall though.

I was really hoping to do the Masters division, but in my box there's only one other masters athlete that can do all the movements. Am doing the scaled division; didn't realize it was multiple workouts each weekend. Two of our team members will be out of town over the weekend, so we'll have to knock them all out Thursday night. I wish HQ wouldn't schedule these things over holiday weekends, too many people go out of town.

Re: Offseason - "Superteams" Open style Competition

Based on what we have seen so far this is not a play at the Grid. The Grid are races, where people go balls to the wall multiple times in a 2-3 hour format. I watched a bit and it looks like you need an actual team of people, with some specialists.

So far this looks like the Open, with more people. For real, the first event is essentially 11.1/14.1, the second is 12.6/13.5, the third event is different but basically I could send them a Youtube video of my three rep max squat. Crossfit HQ will be limited due to the format, Grid they can work with and make more user and spectator friendly. The Open with a partner will not be exciting. Watchung Rich and Jason tag team DUs not exciting at all. Watching people race could be.

Will have to wait and see.

That's exactly what it is. It's just something more fun to do w friends that allows you to "compete" across the world and see where you rank.

Your comment about the 3RM front squat I assume is somewhat of a joke, but just to be sure it's more complicated than that obviously. They will be policing this pretty strictly unless you have someone there to judge and your affiliate owner to validate, just like the Open.
