Back Squat & Deadlift - form check

Here are a couple videos from CFFB Total today, PR's on both lifts

Back Squat:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bItt2_B8A0

Deadlift:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89Blox4jpJo

Here is what I see:

Back squat needs more hip drive, other than that I think I am fairly pleased with the effort.

Deadlift was the previous to my 370lb PR, I think I should be focused on squeezing my upper back prior to pulling. I did a better job on this on the next lift. I am really starting to engage my glutes and hamstrings and have noticed my lower back is not feeling it the next day. Any comments are more than welcome.

Re: Back Squat & Deadlift - form check

look to be pretty strong efforts to me, nice work.

Squat: Looks good for a 1RM, keep it up.

DL: Also pretty good, only comment I would make is try to "squeeze" the weight off the ground. You do a little bit of a jerk at the start of the lift that messes with your start position. Best to build up the tension and then squeeze it off the ground as that way the tendons and ligaments are not going from lax to loaded almost instantly as that can lead to injuries. Other than that though, looked like a strong lift

I agree with Robert on both points. Very strong effort, and it seems like you're slightly "jerking" the Deadlift off the ground.

Try to build the tension in your arms and cut the "slack" before doing the actual effort.

Nice work. What squat rack is that? Do you mind if I ask what you paid for it?

Re: Back Squat & Deadlift - form check

Thanks for the compliments/pointers. I will work on building tension on the deadlift. I do tape and watch myself quite a bit and luckily have been doing lots of slow lifts and building strength on CFFB. My next move is to improve my Olympic Lifting and likely will either hit up olyathletes or catalyst maybe later in the year or in the new year. In the meantime I still have some more strength gains I'd like to make (Jay, I have some catching up to get to your numbers). I am still following a linear progression.

As for the squat rack, it's a York 204. Says it's good for 600, although I don't know if I'd trust it that far. I paid $250 CDN for it and bought it about 2 hrs away at a fitness supply store. Regina to be exact, big fan of shopping "locally" as shipping to here from anywhere is brutal.
