I am preparing for a fight in July. I plan on CrossFitting until the day before the event.

Just make sure that you are doing the movements correctly to minimize the risk of injury (like you should ever choose not to do this). I guess I mean, if you are ever in doubt about a movement possibly causing you harm, it is better to be safe than sorry before a comp.

Taper one week out. Half volume days 5-3 days out then active recovery and positional work to remain active the remaining days. Train quite hard the week prior to this. Practice the taper occasionally as you would cutting weight so you know exactly how you respond.

I just listened to the first edition of Crossfitlive.com (which Robert Wolf was actually on) and Coach spoke of cutting out all Crossfit exercises 1 full week prior to a tournament/match. I too have to train for some world championships in 3 weeks and like the idea of tapering down. The cold turkey for a week will leave me antsy and thinking that I'm losing some of my juju. Good luck to all of you folks that are competing! Crossfit has changed my stick fighting game forever.

I don't know that a taper is going to do much for me. I just take it easy a day or two before the event (sometimes just because I am traveling). Whenever I take more than a few days at zero to light intensity, I feel like a weakling and that my body hates me (aches, pains, and feeling of loss of strength/power).

I am heading out to Detroit for this one. It is a pre arranged fight with some other Shootfighters.

I don't know anything about the fighter yet.
