owwwwww

I have a HORRIBLE sore throat right now and need some suggestions. What kind of healthy comfort foods do you all eat when you're sick?

I'd prefer not to eat anything, and I know people say to eat light when you're sick ... but I need to, because I've lifted heavy this week and have a heavy couple days ahead (if I can get over this little bug) so I need to keep the nutrition coming.

I normally eat pretty low-carb paleo, but the only things that really sound good right now are sweeter/higher carb paleo choices, like fruit and GT's kombucha (which I plan on having for dinner).

Any suggestions for soothing the pain, too? I had an otter pop earlier, which I didn't want to, but it was for a chem lesson so I was kinda forced into it

Thanks guys

Re: owwwwww

Haha whiskey? Yeah right ...

Sleep tonight probably won't work cuz I have to get up at 4:45 am to catch a flight. BUT tomorrow night for sure.

Nancy -- I can't WAIT to have one of those!!!! I'm having one as SOON as I get in tomorrow AM; I've been looking forward to going home SPECIFICALLY for that reason.

I think tonight I'm gonna have a cottage cheese/yogurt/fruit mixture that's kinda like ice cream; that'll be soothing for the throat.
Sleep tonight, then much more tomorrow (along with my smoothie!!!) and hopefully I'll be good by Friday.

Thanks guys!

Re: owwwwww

- Indian spice tea, without milk, but with honey

- Chicken soup, with ginger and garlic. Make it yourself, or find a Vietnamese restaurant and have some pho with extra hot sauce.

- lots and lots and lots of Ester C supplements

- Raw garlic. Chop it up and stir it into your soup or something.

- And yeah, tons of water.

Dairy really isn't very good for this sort of thing, especially if accompanied by runny nose or phlegm.

Re: owwwwww

if you're going to go to a viet restaurant, make sure its pho ga, and not pho bo. (chicken vs beef broth, unless you don't care)....on second thought, it might not be worth the trouble. just fyi

-mucho cod liver oil (vit D), apple cider vinegar, and cinnamon.

check out Mike OD's iflife. "how to survive the flu on 4$" or something like that.
www.theiflife.com (wfs). Been loading up on all that, and haven't been sick since last august (knock on wood)

Re: owwwwww

Yes, that's right..I forgot to specify, chicken pho. Not sure it makes a difference, but I think there is something to the ol' chicken soup tradition.

If you like heat and you think sweating it out might help you, and there's a Russian bathhouse near you, maybe go there? If there's no banya, perhaps just a nice round in the steamroom. But that depends on how you feel - sometimes heat can make a sore throat feel worse, sometimes better. I'd think dry heat wouldn't feel great, but steam would.
