Re: AllisonNYC

If you're normally a good sleeper, Jake's probably right. When was the last time you took a week off? If it's been longer than 3-4 months it's time. I know it's counter-intuitive but overtraining manifests in disrupted sleep cycles (among other things.)

I'm a big fan of ZMA for some deep sleep.

Tonight? Tough times, sister. Try to relax and stop thinking about how much sleep you're not getting. Try some meditation if you can find it. I'll bet you can find some guided meditation audio on-line. That sh-t puts me right out; can't meditate to save my life... If you can't find that, try an old text book.

Re: AllisonNYC

I took almost a week off about 2 weeks ago when I had a cold.
I finally fell asleep at 3:15. It's 8:45 and I have to get up and go to the gym.

I'm tired.. I'm putting a bandaid on the situation with coffe and red bull until I get home.. then maybe I'll be able to take a nap.

I've been asking questions about kipping on other threads and on the main site but I guess I'll ask here too..

What are the pros and cons of the 3 styles?

I just switched to the up and down style from the swing. I tried to learn the up and down when I first started kipping about a months ago but couldn't get the hang on it.

Re: AllisonNYC

Allison,

I am sure you are like me where, coffee doesn't affect us? Well the truth is if you are drinking a ton of coffee and red bull, working out, stressing and other such things, you will NOT sleep well at all.

This is experiance. I would recomend switching to tea and cutting the red bull out for while to see if that helps, it did for me!

I know trying to cut that stuff out is hard but if you do it it will pay off.

Hope you get some good rest.

Hey Allison... I've been reading your journal since I joined. I agree ZMA is good for sleep. However, I agree with everyone else. Try to find the root cause to lack of sleep.

Re: AllisonNYC

I've been having trouble sleeping too; I just can't stay asleep because my shoulder has been bothering so much. When I went to see the doctor on Friday for the shoulder, she referred me to orthopedics and threw in a week's worth of sleeping pills to get me back on track. I'm not one for medications, but the last two nights have been wonderful. I'm much nicer to be around when I've had some quality sleep.

I agree with those who have said to get to the underlying cause--mine happens to be my shoulder. The cause of your inability to sleep may be more difficult to pinpoint. Hope it works out soon for you.

Re: AllisonNYC

Hey Allison. Something you may try for the not sleeping is Melatonin. You'll find it in any nutrition store. It's a hormone, naturally occurring in ppl. Try a dose like .5 mg for a day or two and see how that works. If not enough then try 1 mg. That really helps me. Take it about an hour before you want to go to sleep.

And thanks for your encouragement in the daily comments. So when you coming to some cF event in Texas?

Bob

Re: AllisonNYC

When I have trouble sleeping it is usually stress related, so I listen to a guided meditation designed to relax you into sleep. It's by Glenn Harrold, a British psychologist and clinical hypnotherapist. It sounds corny but one week of this works wonders for me.

Re: AllisonNYC

Tabata Something Else:

Pull-ups: 6, 8, 9, 7, 5, 5, 5, 4 .. 49
Push-ups: 7, 7, 7, 8, 7, 7, 5, 5 .. 53
Sit-ups: 11, 10, 11, 11, 12, 12, 12, 12 .. 91
Squats: 18, 18, 16, 15, 13, 14, 13, 15 .. 122

Total: 315

Keith W. steped on my feet for the sit ups, kept track of my numbers and timed me. I'm convinced I have the best coaches ever. I don't know what I would do without them...

I did way too many pull-ups before the workout trying to practice. Funny thing was when I got to the workout I had almost no kip of any kind! I think I got too excited about the whole thing and was over thinking all of it.
That was my first time with this workout and it killed me. I think I'll do a few things differently next time.

I did some pull-up practice in my warm up and after the squats. My kip came back and felt stronger than yesterday. Sadly I tore another callus.

Re: AllisonNYC

Of course a man will date you, if he likes good rough hands. lol

I don't know what to do for the hands, it's a little embarrassing sometimes.
