You must eat this much to play

I am 5'4" and weigh 125 lbs. I eat about 2000 calories per day, and am thinking I may need to up that.

No athletic male should eat less than me. Ever. Under any circumstances. Most athletic females will need to eat at least as much as I do.

This post is a public service announcement, inspired by skinny college kids trying to "lean out" when they should be eating more and lifting more.

That is all.

Katherine

But Katherine! Tracy Anderson and Gwyneth Paltrow only recommend 700 calories a day!

Fortunately, I'd had lunch before I read that. (~800 calories :-) ) Otherwise just reading it would make me hungry.

'I see patients suffering with anorexia nervosa and now I'm reading their diet in pamphlet form,' she says. 'It's immunosuppressant due to its lack of calcium, iron, carbohydrates, proteins and salt.
'If you followed the regimen you would risk developing hyponatremia (low sodium levels in the blood). The diet is also very low in iron, which could lead to anaemia and problems with balance, muscle strength and exhaustion.'

Good lord that was depressing. Now I know our society has pressures and blah blah... but I seriously don't understand why girls do that to themselves or believe s*&! like that. Gwyneth is gross, and if I was Chris Martin I would worry that my gaze alone would break her femur. Not to mention from an instinctual survival of the species standpoint there's no way she can carry herself around for another 9 months let alone support a child.

Ick... I'm gonna go drink a gallon of milk now.

This deserves a sticky. I have no clue how Gwyneth cannot see that she is an anorexic...

Just curious, how active are you Katherine?

Pretty active. Aikido 2-3 days a week for ~3 hours at a time. Two long oly sessions per week. Probably another hour or so of random stuff, depending. But I also have a sedentary job, so I don't have close to the calorie requirements of some of the collegiate athletes who post here.

Re: You must eat this much to play

Yep, It's that time of year all I hear around the gym is " yeah I wanna get abz for summer", meanwhile they struggle to squat 225.

Not for me, although in the past I've fallen into the trap of wanting to be lean and have abs at the expensive of performance/strength. I've been inspired by 70's big, to just get strong as f**** even if that means gaining weight or not staying as lean.

Edit: I really really like your post Katherine. Funny enough, these college kids lean out because they think women find that look attractive.
