New Website

We finally launched our new Rogue Gym site, check it out: http://www.roguecolumbus.com wfs

Hopefully it will help out new affiliates that are building a blog. We tried out a few new things on the main page. Web stuff is a pain!

Bill

Re: New Website

Looks good, Bill. Lighten up the gray font and it'll be great!

And thanks for the Deuce idea again. The world will see ours soon We got it registered and insured and took it for a first ride. Fun as hell!

Re: New Website

Looks decent (a bit too templatey for my taste though). Here a few pointers from a developers pov:

- non valid HTML (51 errors)
- non valid CSS (20 errors
- no meta information
- no "user friendly" urls

Re: New Website

I checked out your new site, and I agree with the above comments about the valid html and css, etc. It should not take long to fix for any competent/experienced developer. I would also very strongly second the suggestion about getting rid of the gray font. White on black is better... high contrast is always a good idea.

I also would offer the friendly suggestion that you create a separate page where you list all of your items that you are currently offering free shipping on. I did a search for "free shipping" and that seemed to work ok, but the easier that you make it for the client to find stuff, the better, IMO.

I've had a great experience buying from you guys, and I hope your business continues to succeed!

Re: New Website

I'm a designer/developer, too, and here's what I'd say:

1. Looks great. Very clean.
2. What Roland & Jae said about having your web person getting things to validate is true; it shouldn't take much work, and it's worth it. Of course, unless they tell you how to keep it valid, it'll probably start slipping pretty soon... in the Grand Scheme of Things, though? Not a huge deal, honestly.
3. I have to disagree with the white on black piece, though... high contrast isn't always the best idea, especially with a black-background site - it can create fatigue with such a high level of contrast. The grey is easier to read, I believe.
...3a. For best readability, studies show that black-background sites are not a good idea, actually... black text on a white background is far superior. I know, I know; lotsa folks in the CF community love their black backgrounds, but they're not the best way to go, especially if you're creating a lot text to be read. (For product-based sites, where it's more about mini-bits of reading, rather than articles, it's probably not a big deal.)
4. I noticed that the permalink structure of your site looks like: ...com/?page_id=23 . Any particular reason for that? I mention it because if your developer can make it more post_id related, i.e. ...com/blog , or ...com/testimonials , it will help out your search engine rankings quite a bit.
5. On your blog's index page, there isn't much spacing in between posts, which makes it hard to know when one post stops and another one starts. (Not having post titles on every one also makes it tricky - a title should be a given for every post, for sure.)

Easy fix, though: in the style.css file, on line 395, you'll see the .postmetadata class... change the "padding-top: 5px" to "padding: 0 0 50px" instead. Should do the trick nicely.

All in all, it's an attractive site - right in line with the Rogue look you guys are establishing. A few tweaks here and there, and you should be smokin'!

FWIW - I have a real hard time viewing any web page with a black background. Most of them I can't read at all.
