Keeping earphones in ear during WOD

During the WOD my earphones from my ipod are always slipping out of my ear. Does anybody have any suggestions on to keep the music and not have earphone distraction?

Go with the type of earphone that clips over each ear. Dorky but won't come off. Best we can do until someone makes in-ear wireless earbuds.

I applaud that you can actually do the WODs with earphones. I am always getting tangled up in the wires, I just stopped bringing music unless it was just running.

Skull candy makes some nice ones that stay in, you can get them to fall if you try though.

Run the wire inside your shirt, assuming you wear your ipod on your biceps.

Re: Keeping earphones in ear during WOD

I have the shuffle, which is quite possibly the greatest invention ever, and I clip it to the hem of my shirt, and run the wire up the inside. This only causes a problem when doing box jumps or deadlifts, as it either flies off or gets snagged.

For the earbud problem, I used the gel covers that come with cell phone hands-free sets. They are shaped like in-ear monitors, stay in place, and block out exterior noise (like the lite rock station at the globo).

Re: Keeping earphones in ear during WOD

How about, Earbuds/earphones, Ipods rate right up there with using gloves i.e. they're 1. a crutch, 2. not needed. 3. a distraction from the task at hand.

If you need music to get the WOD done, or to approach the bar to get the weight moved, or to run, ski, etc. that's....well.... LAME.

Ever see a Athlete in competition using earphones, in most sports they're banned, there is a reason for that, besides of course, most have the volume cranked high enough that hear damaging is being reported.

I have some kind of like this and they have NEVER fallen off during any type of workout. The band over the top is thin and light and the buds still go in the ear. I have never been able to use just ear buds for the same reason that you mentioned.

Re: Keeping earphones in ear during WOD

Jay,

I have to respectfully disagree with your assessment of using music to get a WOD done. I listen to music on a regular basis when doing the WOD, but never when doing sport-specific training; this allows me to really focus on the task at hand.

However, to many people the WOD is their sport. So unless you're a competitive athlete, then why not listen to music if it helps to motivate you? More than anything, music helps to keep the outside distractions from becoming distracters (phone, etc.). Obviously in most competitive events music is not played while performances are underway, but I really don't see any reason not to listen to music as a CF'er who is using it for GPP.

Yes, crutches are bad. If you're merely pointing out that someone can't do a WOD, lift, ski, etc. without music, then yes, I agree, there needs to be an adjustment made. The same as someone who can't do a WOD or train without consuming an energy drink, coffee, etc.

To each his own; you may like vanilla while I may like chocolate
