Bumper not fit bar?

I recently bought a pair of 15 lbs bumpers from a local dealer, but when I went to add them to my bar, one wouldn't fit (the steel ring is too tight). Has anyone else run into that problem, and if so, were you able to modify the bumper to fix it?

It won't fit either side of the bar. The dealer claims the bar (which is nothing special) must be out of spec, but I don't have any problems with the other 335 lbs of bumper plates. The dealer suggested filing down the steel ring - has anyone done this?

Out of curiosity, what brand of bumpers/bar?

Re: Bumper not fit bar?

Yea, what brand?

And then I'd contact the manufacturer/retailer you got it from and explain that you have 335lbs worth of other bumpers that fit just fine on your bar and this one doesn't so it must be their product and not your previously owned equipment, because you said that one of the bumpers fit but the 2nd one didn't right? That should be enough for them to replace that bumper or refund your money or something.

Re: Bumper not fit bar?

The insert is probably bent out of round. Definitely an issue with the plate and not your bar. take it back to the dealer since he's local and have him try to fit it on another bar in his store.

This is what I would do!! Good luck, I've never had a bumper not fit on a bar where something wasn't wrong with the insert!!

Re: Bumper not fit bar?

They're Wright bumpers. I bought them (along with a pair of tens) off craigslist from a local guy who orders them through his gym and resells on CL.

It's an understatement to say I was skeptical when he suggested filing down the insert (which apparently another one of his customers who had the same problem with a 35 lb bumper). I appreciate the sanity check - seems to me like a replacement 15 should be in order.

Caveat emptor.

Re: Bumper not fit bar? - New bumper fits!

Jason - the new Wright bumper arrived today and it fits perfectly (both sides of the bar, of course).

Thanks so much for going above and beyond, and helping me out with this problem. Let me know if you'd like me to return the other bumper back to Wright.

- Matt
