I am 10 months post op on a torn achillies. Recovery has been long but smooth and sucessful. Calf strength and endurance still not 100% pre-injury but getting close. Mostly worried about the other one going someday.
I'm making sure calf and ankle flexibilty is good.
I can't find any indication that calf size and strength act as preventative to this type of injury. Anyone have knowledge or experience with this?

Most people rupture tendon's because they are compromised somehow, or doing something they are not prepared to do. Usually poor flexibilty and inflamation of the tendon can lead to this as well. If you are prone to this type of injury you'll need tho take some preventative measures, prehab/rehab, good warm ups, mobility, balance work etc. Listen to your body, know when to back off.

Strenthening the calf will not help prevent this injury, but most conditioning that strengthens the calf also strengthens the tendon/attachment points.

The tendon tears when the muscle pulls harder than the tendon can withstand. Nobody that I know of has ever definitively found a method to strengthen the tendon that does not also strengthen the muscle.

I was doing lots of heavy, heavy calf raises in the years/months prior to tearing mine. Sets of 10 with 350 in the barbell standing calf raise, full range of motion. That sort of thing. Obviously, I don't think they helped prevent my injury.
