Kettlebags

I am picking up a few old tractor tire tubes after work and had an idea for a new piece of homebrew equipment:

Take a tube and make a skinnyish 32# sandbag; then place that sandbag in a slightly larger tube along with a 1" stiff manilla rope. Tie the rope into a loop, adjust the knot down inside of the tube & tie up the ends of the outter bag to create a kettlebag. Alternatively I have though about heating & bending PVC(same as homebrew rings) to use in place of the rope. Has anyone tried a scheme like this?

Re: Kettlebags

Sounds like a good idea with the rope, but I definitely wouldn't trust PVC with the forces involved. If I can find some big ol' tire tubes I'll definitely be making some. The only thing I'm worried about is the rope being too limp and preventing the bag from being used more like a real KB. Perhaps you could poly/epoxy it or throw some braided hose over it?

I had the same reservations about the PVC myself; I had though about running the rope through the PVC. The braided hose is an excellent idea, and should be much easier than heating/bending the PVC(we all know how much fun this chore is)....thanks.
