Re: Spartan Race.

I did the beast race in June here in Utah. To be honest I was completely disappointed with it. I just did CrossFit leading up to it and was able to get through it fine. I thought a lot of the obstacles were really disappointing and kind of lack luster. I was planning on doing the tough mudder but the spartan race really had me change my mind.

Re: Spartan Race.

Thanks for the info and heads up guy's. Seem like it all comes down to the organizers if the course will be grueling or not. I would like to do all three Spartan races and a Civilian Military Combine race next year as long as they don't conflict with any of my BMX events. Till then my sled pushing, rope climbing and odd object carrying will go through the roof.

Re: Spartan Race.

I highly recommend the Spartan!!! I completed my first earlier this year, and it was challenging. They actually pulled a fast one on us, and we did the Super Spartan.....

I try to compete in all the obstacle races that I can. Right now, my next is the Spartan Sprint in Austin 2013, but on the look out for the smaller ones to keep me ready.

Also, CF helped with the agility and stamina needed to race. Like stated previously, do hill repeats and work the fast twitch muscles.....I suggest subscribing or following the Spartan WODs. I do some but not all. They rock.

Good luck,
Michael

I will be competing (should say having fun) March 23 during the 3:30 time slot.

Nice! I was trying to get in the March 23 race but it was already sold out.

Re: Spartan Race.

Worth it, definitely. Did my first one in July as a Sprint and was very pleased by how challenging it was. It turned into a 5 miler instead of being 3 miles. Then I did the Super in September that was meant to be 8 miles but turned into 11. I loved the variety of obstacles and how it changes every race, but I think its a race better ran up here in the mountains. Makes a lot of difference.

Became a street team member and am signed up to do a 2013 trifecta. Good luck to ya!

Re: Spartan Race.

Mudder, definitely mudder for a full on challenge that's military designed.

...but anything that gets folks out exercising is good

Re: Spartan Race.

Doing the Spartan Race at Citi Field on April 13th. I heard the Tough Mudder was the Spartan on steroids, but i'm sure it will be good anyway as long as I don't have to blow up any balloons..

Re: Spartan Race.

I've done back to back Mudders (sat & sun) 12mi each, Spartan Sprint 3+mi, Spartan Super 8+mi, and Spartan Beast 13.5mi. My preference is Spartan, but both have their qualities. Have fun and the right shoes make a world of difference.

Re: Spartan Race.

I've done 6 Spartan Races, Sprints - Super - Beast level and love them. All very challenging. The toughest are on ski mountains. The flat ones are fun and somewhat tough but mountains are the great equalizer. Beast on Killington was legendary. Some of the most fun and toughest challenges I've faced. CF is such great prep but climbing up and down a mountain isn't in any WOD I've done. Great to be pushed outside normal limits. I've done two Tough Mudders including Mt. Snow, VT and they are tough, fun and challenging but they are definitely easier than Spartans. The NJ TM I could've done twice in a row...but still loved it.

Sign up and have fun testing your CF training!
