what would you do
Just wondering what cf's do when they beling to a cf gym, but have different goals then what the WOD for the day is. To say you want your deadlift higher or squat more, but say your gyms WOD isnt helping your goal.
Or if yout goals i s getting stronger but your gym is more bw focus. what do you do |

Re: what would you do
First, I would talk to the coach/owner about what your goals are and how they can help you meet those goals. After all, that's the core service of their business. If you can't get a satisfactory answer there or find that following the discussion, you still aren't getting the help you need to meet your goals, then it's time to decide whether that gym is for you. Maybe another nearby affiliate is more suited to your goals or maybe it's time to go solo with your workouts and use a different program (CFMainsite, CFFB, CFE, etc).

Re: what would you do
Talk to the owner first, and fully discuss the situation. It's a very common occurrence, and the main priority should be helping you reach your goals, not making you do the suggested WOD on the whiteboard.

Re: what would you do
I post a daily WOD for a couple of reasons:
1. It's what CrossFit "does" 2. It acts as a suggestion for those that need some guidance or don't have any specific goals I have found in the 3 years we've been open that a general gym WOD isn't in most members' best interest. I feel that I provide more value if I tailor member's programming towards their specific wants/needs. So I would have them doing something else. I know, crazy, right? Some people are on SS, some are doing Oly work, some are doing shorter met-cons like CFFB, and some do the gym WOD. |

Re: what would you do
What can you do? You can help the client meet their goals, or you can watch them find someone who will.
(Note that losing clients is not necessarily a bad thing. A triathlon specialist probably won't be happy in a oly-focused gym, and vice versa. But it should be due to a conscious programming decision, not neglect.) Katherine |

Re: what would you do
We have around 20% of our athletes on more specialized programming i.e. strength, Oly, endurance bias, etc. They either modify the WOD to fit their goals or I program a WOD for that day that will fit their goals.

So as you can see, my gym made an effort to reach out and find out what the clients are interested in, and it has really helped. Most will be willing to either accommodate or outright work with you to help you achieve whatever your goal is... but they can't do that if you don't communicate to them what that goal is, or why you feel the current programming is not helping you achieve it. As far as making a standard wod more difficult than rx, that would be a part of standard group crossfit from my perspective. Workouts are always "scale as needed" so the trainer is generally responsible to make recommendations of where someone should be scaling based on their knowledge of the individual, whether it be up or down from the rx. |
