Olympic Bar length

I have a 7 foot Olymic bar. Is this recomended length for all Olympic lifts or is there a categorisation specifically for each lift?

Re: Olympic Bar length

Snatch is typically 7
Cleans are 6.5
Deads, bench are 5

OHP sometimes can be 8 depending on who you talk to. It sucks but you need like 5 barbells to get the most out of training.

Re: Olympic Bar length

OP will most likely do fine with just a 7' bar. Certainly there are other more specialized lengths, but 7' is going to be just fine for the majority of lifters.

Re: Olympic Bar length

Men's bar is 2.2meters, Women's bar is just over 2meters.

Some bars in Powerlifting are longer or thicker. Also bare in mind, men and women use bars of the same thickness in Powerlifting unlike Weightlifting (men's are 28mm, women's are 25mm).

Re: Olympic Bar length

There are usually 2 kinds of powerlifting federations:

IPF and similar who do 1 bar lifting aka 1 bar for all 3 lifts (squat, bench, deadlift) they lift out of an ER rack, which is mainly a squat stand with a bench that can get locked in.

WPO/WPC and similar who lift out of a monolift for squat, and they have a bar for bench, a separate bar for squat and yet again another one for deadlift.

squat bars are typically 30-32mm diameter and 8ft long, these are the bars you see for 1000lbs squats with Malanichev. Deadlift bars are typically thinner and have more flex in them, while bench bars are more normal bars like a Texas power bar.
