zen planner to wodify

We are thinking of switching from Zen Planner and Social WOD to an all-in-one program like Wodify. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this?

WODIFY PROS AND CONS

Pros
  1. Current market leader
  2. Holy Grail of CrossFit endorsements: Rich Froning
  3. Solid growth. Website says they have over 1,500 affiliates.
  4. Status symbol for your gym
  5. Apps (real apps found in the stores like Google Play and Apple Store.) Some apps just use a browser or can only be used on one type of device.
  6. Monthly reports on progress and PRs.
  7. "All-in-one" solution.

Cons
  1. No whiteboard. You sign an agreement that contractually denies a physical whiteboard in the building
  2. Growing Pains. Wodify's blog admits mistakes over and over and over again.
  3. No support number. But you are assured that this is for your benefit.
  4. Lengthy tutorials. Check out "Wodify University". Do you want to sit through at least two 45 minute videos discussing all of Wodify's products and features? Do you want to train and retrain your users on that interface?
  5. Broad Scope. Building a product that works for EVERY GYM means building an application that covers a wide range of possibilities. The software must appeal to the masses yet still provide enough specialized branding to attract boxes of all sizes and cultures. From a software perspective, this is an extremely difficult challenge; and that's putting it *very* lightly.
  6. Broader Scope: Opening Gyms? Yep, Wodify opened their own brand of gym. Why not focus on the software?
  7. Cost. Wodify claims it won't cost you over $350 a month. In other words, it could cost you $350 a month.
  8. Large companies move slowly. It's just the nature of the beast. Whatever they implement, whether you want it it not, can affect you. After all, serving all those affilites creates a high potential for software issues. When they happen (and they will happen) what fixed clients A, B and C could break clients D, E and F. This process can take weeks, months or even a year to implement. Does this sound like an acceptable time-line?
  9. No user import? Wodify has no import feature and the only way to get it implemented is if you start voting up the feedback: http://help.wodify.com/forums/196773...-bulk-add-wods
  10. Social Media Overload. http://keyhole.co/ Check out #wodify on media sites. You can tell the ones generated by wodify. It's #wodify #gymname wod score. How many of these tweets could you follow before muting that person? PRs maybe; but every workout?
  11. Got a request? Take a number. Let's say your box uses Wodify and you submit an idea to make your daily life easier. It's going to take the majority of those "7 boxes a day" to agree with you to get it considered. Right now, it's 26 pages long with 20 listings per page. What if the feature you want is YOUR #1 priority but no one else's? Do you want your idea evaluated on the same level as a growing list of 520?

All that said, Wodify is big for a reason. They must be doing something right or they would not have any success.

You know what's important to you and your box's success; just Wodify meets your needs before you swap.

Re: zen planner to wodify

We switched from MBO to WODify. Best thing our gym did. Members absolutely love it and it makes your life so much easier. All of those Con's that the guy posted are true but are really nonsense. They opened their own gym so when they are done working they can go unwind, and also I'm sure they use wodify in there so they get real world experience and feedback. Just do it. It's worth it.

Hi Patrick,
  • How long has your gym used Wodify?
  • Before Wodify, what were the biggest problems you had with MBO? How did Wodify resolve them for you?
  • What are the best things they do now that keeps you a loyal client?

looked into wodify but I didn't want to buy multiple screens and a computer to run it. Also, not having a white board is ridiculous imo.

Corrections
  • "CONS" should be reworded to "Food for thought". Things are the way they are and, depending on your needs, can be taken as good, neutral, bad or not applicable.
  • Whiteboards allowed. I was misinformed on this one and need to update. Gyms are asked not to use whiteboards for WODs. However, no agreement is signed and has never been signed to say you can't have one.
  • You can open a gym and still focus on your product.
  • Users are imported. User performance history from another system might be a different story. That's the feature request linked above. If importing your members' history into Wodify is important, it might be helpful to know if this option is available.

No worries Brittany, the above claim was just a misunderstanding. Many gyms that have Wodify still have a whiteboard in the gym

The Wodify terms of service just state that the daily WOD will be displayed in Wodify rather than on the whiteboard. This is just what makes it easier for the athletes to log results, and is what gives our customers a great adoption rate! If you have any questions you can reach out any time - eric@wodify.com
