44 waist to 36 waist in 9 months

I was putting up some flyers for my gym in a local surf and skate shop and saw some swim suits and wanted to try this particular one on and it was a 36. the last time i was in a 36 was in the 7th grade! i have lost over 70 lbs and wearing a 36 waist!! My goal is to get in a 34 but my butt may not allow me to.

Great stuff, Paul. I've seen your stuff on logsitall. Veeeeeery strong. Have you been able to maintain strength during the weight loss?

Re: 44 waist to 36 waist in 9 months

It's weird but yes, I have even gained strength. I am no where near the strength level I was when I was played Ball. Since starting CF I have PR'ed everyweek. I have even ran some crazy times. My first Mile in the Murph was 7 min. Not bad for a guy weighing 265! Then I hit a PR snatch on the day we ran 800's. It's the recovery and Diet!

Re: 44 waist to 36 waist in 9 months

Justin, everyone else: I am thinking about Crossfit and would like to do what Paul did (drop abdominal fat/lose weight, etc). I don't even know where to start; I used to be very fast, strong and athletic but inactivity and sickness has killed my muscle mass and, just as importantly, my muscle endurance. I want to lose about 100 lbs (6-0, 300) and recover the strength I had in my 20s (I will be 45 in a month). Any advice, sites, etc? I really need to regain about 50 lbs of muscle as well as losing God knows how much fat. I am a 54 waist and would love to get down to a 38. Any help would be appreciated.

Quite simply, click on the "Start Here" tab on the mainpage. Scale the WODs where you need to, using the BrandX stuff as a guide. And start the Zone diet, now. For weight loss, as everyone here will tell you, the diet is critically important.

I did WODs without Zoning for months with great performance improvements - though my bodyweight (I was never too big) stayed constant, with a fairly significant shift in body composition. WODs alone and an OK diet have never made me super lean though.

OTOH, my (50 year old) brother's done scaled CF workouts since last August, while eating a fairly clean Zone diet. He has nowhere to use a barbell, and has to sub dumbbells for all load bearing movements. Between that, and his Zone work, he's dropped over #50 and at least 6" off his waist. Not incidentally, he's also no longer a walking heart attack risk.

Spurred by my brother, and prompted by my affiliate coach, in the past couple of weeks I've started to measure/weigh Zone portions - and have dropped about #10 of fat.

Paul,

Your run times are impressive as a big guy myself I have a hard time running my last 5k time was 32 mins 10 mins down from 3 months ago. So I guess I'm making alittle progress. Anyway, I have this monitor that calculates your fitness level based on your heart rate you down to try it? I'm curious to see what it shows for you.
