Fiona,

About 1.6 km. 5 miles = 8 km, so you can use that ratio if you ever need to convert miles to km again.

Use this site for any conversion needs!

Yup, Google is your friend. Also try this:

"convert 15kg to pounds"

Just phrase it like that (minus quotes) and you can do any conversion.

For those of you that run on treadmills, do you generally have the mill in metric mode? (showing speed in km/hr and total distance in km) or in english (imperial?) mode (showing speed in mi/hr and distance in miles). Mine can only do one or the other (selected at power-up time), not both.

I often do repeats from a prescription that uses meters for distance, and min/mi for speed/pace. For example, it says "2x800m @ 7:15 pace". I've just converted everything to miles and mi/hr (so 800m is about .48 miles, etc). Kind of a pain. Maybe I need a new treadmill :-)

on a mildly related topic, does anyone know how to make a LifeFitness treadmill do miles rather than kilometers? I tried but I can't find a switch or anything.
