Not all EVOO is created equal

At least, that's what I've been reading.

I googled reviews for Filippo Berrio olive oil (the brand I am currently using/shooting), but could not find anything that reviewed health benefits. Does anyone know how it stacks up? Could I be treating my body slightly better in this regards?

Re: Not all EVOO is created equal

olive oil is like petrol oil both of which are treated the same .

petrol oil sucked out of the ground, put into large vats. Then shipped to refineries and then put into smaller vats .. moved to distributor... then its bought placed into smaller vats which make its way to the stations.

olive oil nearly the same thing.
pulled off the trees, crushed .. placed in barrels, moved to a distributor .. then bottled then store.

Lot of these labels are just that.. its bulk oil that is repacked into different brands. The quality of the oil is dependent on the crop and the country.

Some will say its like wine.. dependent on weather and region and plant type.

I remember reading in cooks illustrated that 2/3 of olive oil is bulk and sold by country and grade. I guess the remaining are boutique and do the whole process themselves. I would imagine that berrio is bulk.

The price of olive oil is like gold these days. So why not support an american olive farmer and a usa based company verse shipping your money to albania?

Re: Not all EVOO is created equal

Thats quite a book. Thanks for the info.

Now, as I'm drinking it, I will visualize putting my mouth to the pump. Thanks!
