I was in the gym this evening enjoying my first stress free finals free workout in weeks when I saw a biggish guy doing something resembling cleans. He had two 25lb small plates and two 10lb plates on the bar and-I'm not kidding here-was yanking the bar off the floor with a C shaped back, pulling it to his shoulders and cradling it in his hands - elbows pointed straight down. Nary a bend in the knees the entire time of course.

I almsot expected one of his vertabre to rupture every time he unloaded on the bar. So I went over to him between sets and tried to say as politely as I could that he was going to hurt himself. He took it really well, and asked what he was doing wrong. It turns out hes on the footbal team and was just trying to do the prescribed workout - don't know how it made it to college ball without ever doing a clean :/. I ended up giving him a quick 10 minute lesson (started with explosive high pulls with just the bar, hang cleans and finally cleans from the floor).

By the time I left he looked like he was comfortably pulling around 115 with safe if not great form. Thanks crossfit for all the great videos and articles. Wouldn't know a clean from a snatch without you!

Congratulations on succeeding in helping someone like that. Often times attempts to help like the one you made are not given or received as gracefully.
