Re: Anderson Silva is to fight Forest Griffin

The previous comment is correct. Greg Jackson did state that he enjoyed the fight between Thales and Anderson. I just think someone like Greg Jackson who knows the fight game so well, can really appreciate how good Anderson is, opposed to most mma fans who really have no expierence training mma or fighting mma. That fight was not very entertaining to most, but it is hard to appreciate what Anderson did out there if you soley base a fight on just two guys swinging for the fence and brawling it out. MMA is a sport and in the end you want to win, and Anderson has spoiled fans for a long time finishing guys so soon, he just went in there and fought a very smart fight. And he punched Thales in the thigh, which is very cool in my opinion.

Re: Anderson Silva is to fight Forest Griffin

Forrest is one of the bigger, stronger LHW's, with a solid ground game and good striking skills.

This isn't James Irvin part two...

With that said, Forrest's chin is going to get tested. It's kind of hard to get a feel on the outcome of the fight though. If I had to guess, I'd say this is going to be much closer than people think.

I'll be in attendance.

Forrests' chin has already been tested, and it passed with flying colors. (see rampage fight for an example). This time around his chin is going to be destroyed instead.

They usually go on sale, from what I am told from friends in Vegas, about 6-8 weeks out from the event.

I bet they won't be cheap.

Re: Anderson Silva is to fight Forest Griffin

Yeah, Forrest will be destroyed. Brilliant matchmaking (business wise) from the UFC once again.

Anderson will not be fighting for the belt and will fight at a heavier division. He won't have nearly as much to loose as in his fight against Leites (belt + the record for most consecutive wins + tie the record for most consecutive title defenses). He won't have to worry about being taken down by a BJJ world champion either. Moreover, he would make a huge statement by shutting down the former LHW champion. So rest assured, The Spider will come out to kill.

Griffins' aggressive and brawling style is the perfect match up for Silva to please the fans with another utter destruction (Dana is an evil man for doing this to his poster boy). If the unthinkable happens and Forrest wins, much like in the Shogun fight, then Forrest stock would shoot through the roof, he would immediatelly get another title shot and make the UFC a ton of money. If Forrest loses, he lost to the best pound-for-pound fighter in the world and nobody will blame him for it.

A solid win-win situation for the UFC.

Forrest has toned down his brawling tactics. He striking has fastly imrpoved. It's not Silva striking but it is better than most in the LHW divison. I don't think this fight is going to be as easy for Silva as you think. I wouldn't consider this a cake walk for Silva..........

^this

I think that if griffin can make this a nasty fight, always grinding on silva, using his weight, alot of dirty boxing into takedowns, he can grind this out.....however, he has to keep his hands up. The great thing about griffin is he won't buy into the hype
