This is probably where the original post came from. A lot of people don't own the book and get their info from googling "Starting Strength" or something similar.
The first routine is literally what is in the book, "Starting Strength". Pg. 289.

Dear me. Sorry Tim, you're correct.

I can't remember where my original info came from, but it must have been one of the other novice workouts (you give them above), which DO have the deadlift occurring once a week. My apologies.

I did SS for three months, deadlifting on Mondays.

Nice post Tim. <edit> Oops. Folks already caught the SS correction I posted. SS does have some discrepencies which can lead to the confusion. I have the 2nd ed. and am basically following the handwritten workout on pp. 300-301.

SS 2nd edition shows "Onus Wunsler" just as an example, I believe.

I think its different than the A day/B day workout shown in the first edition because it includes things like dips and chin ups, which weren't mentioned in the first edition.

Onus Wunsler's program in SS 2nd Ed. does not have him doing dips.

But it DOES have him doing the deadlift alternated with power clean once a week. I think the discrepancies between the 1st and 2nd edition plus PP have really thrown us all for a loop. The main thing to realize is SS is a beginner's program and they will make gains no matter what they are doing. However, doing the deadlift every A workout and the power clean every B workout may be a bit much volume, even if the deadlift is only one working set. Either way, the person just has to gauge their own reaction to it.
