Right hip flexors sore after Squat PR

I noticed a slight twinge of pain during while setting my BS PR yesterday. Last night I felt pain in the area of my right hip flexors. Near the crease between my pelvis and right leg. I assume it's "hip flexor tendonitis", possibly from allowing my right knee to come inward a bit on one of my last reps. I read through a bunch of archives. I've been icing and massaging with a tennis ball. Anything else other than let it heal before I go nuts?

thanks,
Brent

Stretch it... or get like an ART practititioner to release it if that really is the problem

Definitely NOT tendonitis... you don't get tendonitis from one session. May be a slight pull/strain or cramps.

The pain is mostly gone, but I still feel pain at the bottom of a squat in two places, my hip flexors (mostly right, but some left) but also, the vertibrae closest to my pelvis. Strange. Any ideas?

Considering that psoas major (one of hte hip flexors) has an origin on the lumbar spine I would expect you to feel it.

Keep massaging it and loosing it up if it's tight. Heat is ok.

It doesn't feel really tight, but it still feels quite sore. Why would it still hurt after 4 days?

any good stretches?

Also, where are the "trigger points" that I would "self-massage"

Hi Brent,

trigger points for Iliopsoas massage can be seen at http://triggerpoints.net/userfiles/Iliopsoas.jpg (wfs). http://triggerpoints.net/ (wfs) has many more pictures for other muscles, organized by body area.

Youtube has a video on how to massage the psoas trigger points at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IVEtXb3ijn4 (wfs).

Good luck, and fast recovery,

Christian

How long does this stupid injury take to heal?

I've been massaging it, gently stretching, but the darn thing has reached a steady state of not healed.

Re: Right hip flexors sore after Squat PR

Consider it's been like 4 days... and you probably keep aggravating it by doing hip workouts.... it could take a very long time.

If it's twinging then you should lay off the hip work and REST.

Well, rest and do the recovery work we suggested above.

Now I'm curious why you would assume that.

I haven't done anything hip-centric since I hurt it a week ago. I've been taking the best care I know how.

But if you were just testing then shrug.

Massage, heat, stretching

If it was truly a strain VERy tight muscle it can take a while
