Just having trouble

I am male, 5'8" 165 lb, and am just having trouble keeping up with the seemingly INCREDIBLE loads posted and prescribed in the WOD's. I am sure that my biggest obstacle is my age (56) and the fact that I am not going to take a chance on hurting myself lifting too much. Another obstacle is that I cannot throw my weights if I have to bail, so everything that goes overhead, I must be able to catch and control. But, even considering all my obstacles, I cannot imagine 400 lb squats and 500 lb DL's, or 100 lb weighted pull ups. My God! What animals! Oh well, I keep working, keep wishing, and keep improving, at my own slow pace. Love Crossfit!

Re: Just having trouble

Richard - check out the BrandX forum - they post scalings of mainsite WODs everyday to give you an idea of how to cut back the weight/volume/intensity of the WOD. It's super helpful.

2nd what she said! That's awesome that at age 56 you are doing CF! I hope I am when I'm 56. Just do what you can do and scale accordingly. It's all about your journey and relationship with CrossFit...not what's on mainsite or anyone else's whiteboard.

Keep it up!

Re: Just having trouble

Yeah, thanks, both of you. I love learning the lifts, learning good form, etc. When a nice squat clean happens and you catch it balanced, feels so right. Even more so on a nice, heavy-for-me snatch. And to be able to run through a WOD faster than my sons, who workout with me often, that is the bomb! And there, along with stunts, handstands everywhere, and bowling, is my fun.

Re: Just having trouble

I'm not sure I understand the problem. Is it that -- at age 56 -- you can't keep up with the performance of people half your age?
