Re: Emory University, Atlanta

You might try to contact Steve Lewis... he is the strength coach there, and is very OL friendly, and a good coach. He does, I believe, coach some OL guys who are not "varsity athletes"... cant help you with the other crossfit specific stuff, but at least that might be a line on bars and bumpers, and pretty good coaching on the olympic lifts if you desire it

Re: Emory University, Atlanta

they do have a weightlifting club in the evening about 3 times a week i think. I'll definitely check it out. I'm afraid I might not have time though - my classes run through most of the day, and I think what's left of my time will probably be used for studying, but we'll see!

Atlanta is Chock full of great Crossfitters, inside and outside of the perimeter. I'd suggest Crossfit Atlanta as your best Crossfitting in Atlanta, though.

*I'm unbiased, I live nowhere near Atlanta anymore.

Re: Emory University, Atlanta

i would love to join an affiliate but 1) its too much money for a student- i don't need a trainer, just a gym 2) i've checked out the map - all the affiliates are far enough that it would be really inconvenient to get to without a car

hey daniel...

had an idea that just might work for you...

you could get sandbags and follow the WODs from crossfit center city. the trainer, greg privetera, modifies mainsite WOD for use with sandbags...

if you have a bit of money now, you could get some kettlebells and take them with you. there is one affiliate which trains mainly with kettlebells, but sorry, can't remember the name of the affiliate, location or trainer...

Re: Emory University, Atlanta

hahaha that sounds interesting
i was actually just curious if anyone does crossfit inside the Emory gym, and, as a side note, complaining that the students have limited access to the oly equipment.

although we aren't given access to the oly weights and ghd's, there are medballs, squat racks, barbells, free weights, rowers, etc. i can do the oly lifts when its in a metcon (135lbs) - i just can't drop it.

Re: Emory University, Atlanta

Daniel, I don't know about CrossFitting on Emory Campus, but I live nearby and the closest affiliate to Emory is CrossFitRx, which is just down Clifton on Dekalb Ave. http://crossfitrx.com/ (wfs) You could bike there from Emory no problems. There's even a bike path for most of Clifton through Druid Hills and Candler Park. They have free open houses on Saturdays at 9AM and drop in rates of $20 if you need a CrossFit fix some other time and can put together the cash. There are a ton of other great affiliates in Atlanta, but CrossFit RX is going to be your best bet if you don't have a car and are coming from Emory campus.
