Hi,

More newby questions but I though I'd round 'em up into one rather than a million.

Anyone thought of putting together a mini sources directory for stuff like Stable mats, oly bars, plates and other equipment?

Since stuff in Aus is so expensive relative to the states it might make things easy and we can always use the prospec of bulk purchase/group buys to save money?

Eg looking for stable mats now but few suppliers curently expect on in Bookvale with a retail price of $100 per(6'x4',17mm) mat seems exy vs USA price $35-$50?

Are there enough Aussies to justify this?

While it may not be directly helpful to you, I have gotten in touch with AllRubber just north of Perth and am getting some 4'x6'x17mm mats for AU$87 each (~ US$66). In fact the shipment is at the port right now waiting for customs clearance. I should be able to pick up my mats early next week.

They're the best deal I've been able to find here in the west.

The rest of my stuff I brought in (or am actively shipping in) from the US.

Contact your local Mine Supplyer.
Minning conveyor belt is a great option. I got two pieces about 2.5 inch thick 1.2 X2m for $60 in total delivered.

Don Stevenson from Crossfit in Sydney is you man to get Kettlebells from.
I'm waiting on a bulk order of Ab mats from the States (hopefully here any day) and i should have a few left over.

Fiona

here's my list:

I got a stall matt from Clark rubber in Joondalup.
$99 for 1.8M x 2.2M x 15mm, just the right size for under powerrack rack.
And a couple of 2cm thick Rubber 1M square recycled rubber tiles from clark rubber in Cannington. I use these outside for snatch and deadlift and store in my shed.
Also got some rubber strips to protect power rack

Other good Australian suppliers:
Buffalo sports in Brisbane for Eleiko.
I bought an Eleiko Powerlifting bar and some rubber coated weights ( not bumpers ).
www.buffalosports.com.au

Rehband knee sleeves from physioworks
www.physioworks.com.au

Suppliers I recommend that will ship to Australia:
www.liftinglarge.com for powerlifting equipment
fast and cheap freight

Ironmind.
fast and cheap freight ( for small items like COC grippers )

not so good:
Dragondoor. expensive freight and slow
I'm sure they have a 50% plus margin on freight

Elitefts:
I'd like to order some books from them but the freight is too expensive

You could look at MA Jig Saw mats but they are a bit exy as well, I purchased some mats from jenkins rubber in cairns, they sell off cuts quite cheap.

Good Luck this week end fiona.

Thanks,

This is all excellent info, I'm looking around for gear as well so will post any additional sources.

Looks like $100 or so is the going rate for stable mats.
