Scott-
The tabata interval is simply a work rest interval which I guess one could apply to the hindu squats. I feel that the weight through the heels, butt back squats which crossfit recomends (and is generally is used in tabata intervals) is more athletic and distributes the load over more musculature. The hindu squats as they are generally practiced become a very long duration, low intensity endeavor which looses adaptive stimulus very quickly. Check out this link: http://home.hia.no/~stephens/timecors.htm Give the free crossFit journal and foundations page a read as well. Robb |

I fail to see any dimension in which hinu squats equal good, ol' fashioned deep squats (the kind Robb is talking about).
I think much of the appeal to hindu squats comes from their name and the associated mystical qualities that the name conjures up. |

At Maxercise generally regular BW squats are used, usually done fast w/ explosive hip thrust off a bench or ball, sometimes holding a 25lb plate, for tabatas.
Hindus are great in BW circuits due to the breathing rythym. Holding 5 -10 lbs in each hand, and/or using a vest, takes the reps down from the 100s to the 25s. |
