CL price for steel plates

I've been looking get some steel weights and found a 350# set for $.70 a pound ($250) and a 445# set for $.60 a pound ($290). How do these prices stack up to what other people have been able to score?

AZ's Craigslist is awesome. Fair market price in AZ tends to fall between $0.40-$0.50 a pound. If you're patient enough you'll see it for $0.10-$0.30 a pound.

I wouldn't go over 50 cents per pound unless they were something special like revolvers, troy interlocking...etc. if you're just talking about regular plates like CAPS or weiders never go over 50 cents IMO.

Re: CL price for steel plates

does a 445lb set of standard olympic plates for $290 sound like too much? roughly $.65/pound

Agreed. Patience is the key. If you can't wait, don't pay more than $.50; if you can, then do. I scored some old Billard plates for cheap, and after selling the barbells that came with the weights, ended up having paid about $.15/pound.

Re: CL price for steel plates

Another tip, if you have a big enough vehicle.

I've found entire weight sets along with a bench, and bars. After selling all the crap I don't need (bench press, extra crappy bars etc) and just kept the plates, I'd end up making a profit.
