The platform idea would work except for the fact that I then would not be able to press when standing on the platform. As it is, I have 2 panels removed for when I press and I just barely clear the bare ceiling. Although that may work for the 2x6 idea, being as the uprights jut up a little higher than the rack.

Re: Just purchased the R-3, some questions

You could use 2X3X24 Cross members like in our bolt together version.

Bolt to the base of the rack to the wall - would need to put a stringer on the wall to use wood lags

You could store plates or something on it!

I will send you a pair with some bolts, give it a shot

Bill

Re: Just purchased the R-3, some questions

Hey Michael, how do you like the attachments you purchased? I am looking at all those add-ons for mine too. I think I will go with the Strap Safeties first to save my bar knurling a bit. Thanks

A couple things:

1. The matador is solid, and pretty awesome but it weighs like a metric ton, haha so it is a bit of a pain to hold it in place with one hand while putting the pin in with the other. That's the price you pay for high quality metal though I suppose.

2. The strap safeties are kind of annoying to move, but I came up with a good system. I have the pin pipe safeties set up at bench height, and the straps set up at squat height. When I bench I just unhook the straps and let them hang, when I squat I hook them up. That way I don't have to constantly move the strap safety brackets when switching exercises.

3. Monkey bar is awesome. Added stability to the rack having both pull up bars in place, and having it upside down I can at least get use out if it until I move to a new place.

Any regrets about getting the shorty version instead of the normal 90" version?

Absolutely none. The pullup bar is the perfect height. Just need to have a very slight bend in my knees to clear the floor.
