Thanks for all the great advice, I tried to not watch TV before bed the last few nights, instead I stretched and meditated for a while, it seem to help somewhat.

hey jeff i got out of the army last november after 3 years i know its very scary at first but now your possibilities are endless and you have all the freedom in the world. have you tried a supplement called zma? helps you sleep and recover at night, the movie thing also laying in bed watching on a laptop i find works.
guided meditation also helps ive been putting it on my mp3 player when i go to sleep here it is..http://www.meditainment.com/free/download.cfm

I've found that valerian actually has really inconsistent results... Would recommend passionflower, oatstraw, verbena or skullcap over valerian... or California poppy if you don't have to take any drug tests (can produce a false negative for opium I hear.)
