Re: What type of shoe are you guys using?

- New Balance MX20's for most WOD's
- Adidas Powerlift Trainers for lifting and lifting-oriented WOD's where there's no jump rope, box jumps or running
- Mizuno Wave Mushas for 5k runs

Yep. Totally a different strokes for different folks thing.

It's that very flatness that I'm in search of any time that I'm not running. I feel that the flatness keeps my weight more toward my heels when jumping, squatting, lifting, etc.... Since I otherwise have a tendency to rock my weight forward, this is helpful for me.

Remember, they're low-cut basketball shoes, so they are designed to be excellent general movers. Just make sure you get legit Chucks rather than one of the cheap designer knockoffs that are out there.

Re: What type of shoe are you guys using?

Simple

NB MT10 (No reason to look elsewhere for me)
Reebok Oly.

I will throw on my Saucony Kinvara's for a 5k or whatever. Sometimes a little squish is nice.

So what are you using for Lifting shoes? I'm viewing the converse chucks, and they don't seem like a shoe that you'd exercise, nor run with, but I could see them being a lifting shoe maybe? I've never had dedicated shoes for each piece, I've always just used traditional running shoes for everything, so, I'm trying to evolve.

DCs (Pure) for everything, with the following exceptions:
Romaleos (Version 1) for Olympic lifting,
NB 10 Roads if I'm running over a mile, and
NB 800s if I'm on the track.

And I wear Vans to work (the ones with the tuxedo jacket on the inside ... forget what style it is specifically).

Again, remember that Chucks are athletic shoes; specifically, basketball. So, they are built to handle lots of running, jumping, cutting, starting, stopping, etc.... To me, this makes them excellent as a general exercise shoe; however, since they have basically no padding, and since I do like a little padding for distance running, I don't like to run in them.

As for lifting (and we're talking Olympic lifting here), Chucks really aren't that great in this realm. Their flexible sole, a must-have feature for an athletic shoe, is a drawback for Oly lifting. True Oly shoes also feature a raised heel and fit tighter than Chucks, which are canvas (I believe) and loosen up over time.

My approach works for me, but it may be overkill for some. Find what works for you, and be open to the possibility that what works for you might even change over time. It took me over a year to get Oly shoes, because I thought that Chucks were sufficient. Now I really hate to lift without them.

My situation would be easier and cheaper if I could tolerate distance running in Chucks, but I just can't. Anything over about 1/2 mile in them just pounds on me too much and makes me cry for actual running shoes.
