Teehee... Caffiene powder

So guys today i was thinking... I love energy drinks, but i hate coffee... and tea doesn't cut it for me, and I'm doin the paleo thing.

So i devised a solution!

I ordered 250g of caffiene powder!! for like $25.

A high caffiene energy drink has about 300mg i think. so this is like 100 energy drinks for $25, minus the sugar and other iffy ingredients!

Caffeine smoothie anyone?

This is the part where you all tell me how stupid this was.

This is what you call "missing the boat". If all you are going to do while being paleo is try to find ways to bend the non-existent rules, it's only yourself you are cheating. If caffeine is such an integral part of your life, then don't give it up, simple... but if it has that huge of a grip on you, that you can't give it up, doesn't that make you concerned?

Re: Teehee... Caffiene powder

I don't have any problem with it since I drink a 'venti' sized cup every morning, but, with that said, I'd be very careful in measuring out your doses.

If you start doing lines of it, you may have an issue.

Start at a VERY low dose and work your way up.

Quality and purity can be very questionable and it would be a ****ty way to die.

I won't tell you you're stupid, but I prefer not to energize myself with stimulants other than food.

Is cocaine considered food?

Re: Teehee... Caffiene powder

I probably won't actually use it very often, but now i have no excuse to ever buy an energy drink.

Be very careful when measuring. I recall Mythbusters ordering caffeine powder and commenting something along the lines of "this much caffeine would kill a person."

I can't stand energy drinks, though. A caffeine only works for me if I haven't had it in a long time, so I generally avoid it and otherwise only use it sparingly.

It depends why you want the caffeine. I drink coffee daily because I love it, but I generally stick to 1 cup daily, 2 cups max. I also eliminate it every once in awhile for a few days to rebuild sensitivity (whether or not it actually works, I don't know, but it feels like it does).

The exception is during lot sustained endurance stuff I find that caffeine
supplementation was very helpful. I recently took 2nd place in a small 100 mile race where I was averaging 1 caffeine pill per hour and felt totally alert and stable the whole time. (If I weren't running, I would be in trouble...)

Point being, caffeine is good but if you take too much every day you will lose your sensitivity and probably have other consequences as well. I use it only when I really think it can provide an ergogenic effect.

I'd also keep an eye out for an increased cortisol response. If you start getting flabby around the middle, not getting good rest at night and not recovering properly after your workouts it might be that caffeine.
