Re: The Dead-Hang Pull-up Society

WooHoo! So many I'm not going to call any names! You guys are so inspiring I'm going to have to go home and knock out a few (floor assisted and negatives). You're right, this is so inspiring. Think I'm gonna change my sig. ;D

Please keep posting your methods and progress, even failures. That's what I find so inspiring. Thanks all!

Jared - well, duh! lol

So many guys who just don't get it...

thanks for the suggestions. Sadly, my roommate is a *weightlifter* who isn't interested in pull-ups. I still get to use all the weightlifting stuff, though, and the pile of strange toys to the side continues to grow... =)

Re: The Dead-Hang Pull-up Society

Okay, I am going to name names. =) So far I think we are moi, Tirzah, Lara, Anu, Danielle, Sara and Jill. Right? Thanks for signing on. It is nice to have a tribe.

What I was doing up to yesterday was body-assisted pull-up on the bar racked chest high. The farther out I put my feet, the more weight is on my arms.

I do about 5 then break then another 5. I'm thinking I should do this a few times a day. I also realized I could set the thing and do heavy weighted pull-downs. And, maybe do the first 5 as fast as I can, then concentrate on the negative on the second 5.

I'm over 100 pounds overweight so it will be a while before I can do my whole body weight.

Two questions:

How does this sound for a plan for now?

What are you doing now?

Hey Delita,

Maybe I could be an honorary member? I regressed today - - couldn't manage to even get the one I can normally obtain once a day or so. Feeling puny!

Delita, the one thing I've noticed about pull ups is consistency. If you notice you are growing stronger, keep on increasing the difficulty. Negatives are good - but they can really hurt your arm. So do be careful about those.

Of course! Are you over doing the pull ups? Did you do something else that has made your arms so / tired that you can't do them? Make sure you have pull-up free days to recover from the PU activity.

Re: The Dead-Hang Pull-up Society

The September CF journal has a vid by Bozz and Todd teaching someone how to do kipping pull ups. I saw it and they've broken down the kip into the beginning phase and how to build up to the kip. So I've started practicing because it allows me to use a jumping pull up w/ at 24" box. Just something else to try while I rely on the gravitron and these until I can get my own pull up bar in the basement. Maybe today...

I am a little late to the game, but do y'all mind if I join up? Pullups are my white whale and it is good to know others are trying as hard at this elusive exercise as I am!

Stephen - I believe we are restricted to any who can't pull UP but are trying, so that would be you today, right?

Anu - thanks so much for mentioning this. I hadn't heard that. Is there something specific I can watch out for/guard against?

I'm really glad you mentioned this too With that bar in the LR, and this group to remind me, I'm starting to walk over there and give it a try every time I see it. I'll have to schedule off days.
