Well, it would appear that our medicine ball group buy has been pretty successful. In that thread, there's been some querying about what type of buy we should look at next. Generally speaking, the more people that you bring to a manufacturer the more successful (i.e. bigger discount) that buy is. So...we should spend a couple of minutes kicking around the idea of the next piece of gear we're all interested in. Some of the suggestions I've seen are:
1. Bumper Plates
2. Ropes (for climbing)
3. T.A.P.S. System (for rings/pullups)
4. Concept-2

For the time being, let's use this thread as a place to post up suggestions on equipment. Mods...any way to post a poll using this message board software?

Matt,

I'm happy as I can get about the Dynamax group buy. Nice work.

My vote for another buy is Concept 2. Thing is, I've seen Model C's used for $575 and I am SOOOO cheap it'll take quite a bit to get me over to a new one, if that's the direction we go.

Now, about a rope...

Cincinnati Rope and Cable sold me a 25' length of 1 1/2" manila for about $40. It was just plain rope, no metal fittings, knots, etc. but they did tie an eye on one end at no extra charge. I whipped the trailing end with duct tape, hung it over a 4x4 between a tree and the utility pole and it works great.

Or do we want a "real" factory-made climbing rope?

I'll check with CR&C about a group buy discount, shipping cost, etc. if "we're" interested.

What are the qualities/features we want? Size, material, length, etc. Should this be "one size fits all" or will everybody want something different? What's our target price?

With regard to spec on equipment, I rely on the opinions of the "old-school" members, coach, etc. and their suggestions. There are some links on the front page of the site to specific manufacturers that I believe are considered the CrossFit standard/default for their particular product.

The following items are on my list:

Bumper plates (10kg & 20kg)
Olympic bar
Rope
Concept-2

So three of my four match Matt's list.

For the bumper plates and a good bar, I'm thinking we might want to talk to Scott Tully from BS Olympic Gym, per this thread:

Oh, regarding polling functionality, we don't have anything like that currently. But I'll volunteer to count up all the items on this thread and post a count for each. Let's give participants 'til Friday and I'll post a count for each item identified on Saturday morning (e.g., Bumper Plates: 20; Concept-2: 15; etc.).

Well, I'd be on board for a C2 if the group price is right.

Matt, et al,

For plates, I'd check Weightlifters Warehouse, too.

And RB Rubber. They're the manufacturer. They also make stall mats.

Bar, bumper plates, and a rope, not all at once because of money issues, and not necessarily in that order.
