Re: 2011 Games site is live

The problem with a max lift is there must be some way to incorporate it without rewarding a specialist, which means introducing a fatigue factor. Now, in the past that was either a seven mile hill run that didn't go as planned due to late set-up of the deadlift while the next year had a long helen followed up immediately with an overhead lift.

If I may suggest a way to allow max lift:

Open Sectional CrossFit Total
Total time: 3 rounds of 5 minutes, 2 minute reset between rounds, 19 minute total.
Lifts(each done in five minutes): Press, Deadlift, Squat

Rules: Within the five minute time limit of each round, athlete must pick a weight to perform 50 reps. Athlete then has the remainder of the round to attempt a 1rm. However, the max weight for the 1rm is twice the weight used for the 50 reps.

Ex: Athlete picks 250# for 50 reps, and takes three minutes to complete. Athlete can use remaining two minutes to get a 1rm upto and including 500#.

All 50 reps MUST be completed to do the 1rm. Athlete may reduce the weight to accomplish this, however that reduces the new max attempt at 1rm. If time is up, but Athlete did get at least 30 reps, then his score for that round can be the minimum weight used in those first 30 reps.

The rest time can then be used to prep for the next round. Friends can help with the loading, unloading of weights.

Total score is combined 1rm of all three lifts.

Benefits: The 50 rep requirement adds a fatiguing element, but still has a connected relevance to the 1rm which cannot occur if you arbitrarily added a helen or long fran prior to the 1rm. Athlete must have a tactic going in knowing that picking too heavy a weight for the 50 reps seriously hampers their 1rm attempt.

Idea is similar to a 1-30-1-30-1-30 WOD that was posted a year or so ago.

I have no idea about other regions, but I am pretty sure that the Southeast regionals (The Dirty South) will be held in Jacksonville, FL as usual.
