Varsity

Hello,
I started crossfit and a 30 day paleo diet at the begining of August/end of July, and the results have been astounding! Crossfit even though I only did crossfit for a month, but my times have improved awesomely.
Times:
1 mile; 5min 56s pr
2mile; 14min 09 (only ran once)
5k dont know havent run it yet.

When I started practice and ran, the coach asked me if i have been running all summer, and have ran before . So just wanted to say thanks to the community here for helping me make varsity cross country as a freshman.

Alec,

Excellent work. I was an All-Conference cross country runner in high school (youd never know it now), only we didnt have have a varsity and JV CC team. Yeah I went to a pretty small school.

Here is one thing I'll say. Keep doing your strength training and eating lots of food, no matter what your coach says. Give your body a chance to grow to its full genetic potential.

Once again, congratulations!!

Re: Varsity

thanks everyone, got my mile down a second today to 5min 55s, coach has been drilling us with one particularly difficult workout.

1 mile max tempo,
4 200m or 4 30sec. steep incline hill runs
slow jog recovery per interval
1mile max tempo again
8 400m, or 8 1min steep incline runs
same as above for recovery
1 mile max tempo

it is very tough

Re: Varsity

That is a tough workout but its promising that your coach is training intervals like that. That was one thing that my coach in high school sort of neglected. We did some interval work but not very much. Knowing what I know now, Im pretty sure that wouldve taken my running to another level.

True. In highschool and before CrossFit I always noticed that I got a lot faster during track season and maintained speed during XC. All because of the type of training done. XC we ran 4 to 6k's just like that. Track was all sprints and repetitions.

And Alec, congrats and good job on making the team.
