link to log, brand names

I want to link to my workout log. well, i figured out how to link, but how do i rename that link, so that i can show that link without the complete address, just keywords.

Also, how come I have seen band names like Vibram Five Fingers (a shoe that was recommended on this forum, by name, and I love) and the ******* interval timer (which was mentioned by name, on this forum, and I love), but when I try to pass this info along to others, even in private messages, the words "*******" are covered up?

Thanks

Re: link to log, brand names

Richard, the g-y-m-b-o-s-s interval timer is a nice piece of equipment, well worth recommending. Unfortunatlely, they have (or at least used to have) a *really* annoying marketing gimmick where if someone posted something nice about the product in any internet forum or blog, and sent them the link to prove it, they would send the poster a free t-shirt.

As soon as they started this, we were immediately inundated with random people launching threads to say how great it was, or adding that as a non sequiter in other threads (amazing how people will prostitute themselves for a t-shirt).

So we killed the name, same as we do with a select list of individual obscenities.

Too bad . . . they make a fine product. Really stupid marketing, however.

i'm doing this with <>s instead of []s, so just replace them:

<URL="http://blacklotus124.livejournal.com">my workout log</URL>

see?

(both links are mostly safe for work. there's probably some off color language in there)

OMG, thanks, I usually have a clue with this type stuff, but could not figure out that you needed to change it in the dialog box, not in the signature. Ugh.

Anyway, thank you very much.

Re: link to log, brand names

Regarding the OPs first question, there is a facility built into the text editor where you compose your posts to facilitate this.

Type the words you want to use, such as "Here is my workout log."

Then, using your mouse pointer, select the words in which you want to embed a link.

Go to the little toolbar at the top of the text editor and click the little blue/green circle (it's a globe, but this may not be immediately apparent to all because it's so tiny).

In the box which pops up, enter the web address to which you want to link. The box defaults with the http:// portion of the address, so if you're cutting and pasting make sure you don't duplicate this or your link won't work.

Click "OK", and there you are. Embedded links.
