Re: Why are Crosfitters so Jacked?
well, part of it is training, part diet, part genetics, and part background or history before coming to CF. they all play a role. but, not all CF are jacked. not even all the top guys. Spealler, Bridges, Ben Smith, as examples. however, the answer to your question about why and how crossfitters are so jacked can be found in looking at CF itself and the evolution of it over the last few years. the saying for CF used to be "it makes men small and women hot", now they say "it makes men hot and women look like men". i am not saying that is right or trying to be funny or rude, just stating what outside observers commonly say based on the athletes. the assumption that men should be big and have muscle while women should not and should be skinny is a social and society thing, so i am mentioning it for reality sake, not for the endorsement sake. at any rate, if you look at all athletes a few years back, men and women, the majority were much smaller. there is no doubt that over the year all the athletes, men and women, have gotten bigger and stronger, and then trend has been to move from skinny to strong, to move from endurance athletes with a little strength to strength athletes with good conditioning. so what changed? well most athletes have moved from doing crazy long random metcons all the time to doing dedicated strength work on a regular basis with conditioning thrown in. the training done now resembles the same training as other athletes that look jacked like football players, rugby players, etc. powerlifting and weightlifting have become much more part of the culture. the diet has also changed alot. years ago everyone was doing zone on minimal blocks a day. these days it is much more common for people to eat big to get big. and rest days seems to be much more acceptable, as well as structured programming instead of random choas "programming". bottom line, if you want to look jacked, train and eat like people that looked jacked. lift heavy things often, eat alot, follow a proven program, get enough rest. most top athletes today train this way and therefore look this way.
