handstand help

Hi there! Been CF'ing since 2/5/11 at home on my own.
My biggest short term goal is to do our iconic handstand. I can get "walk up" my wall at home and have gotten having one leg off the wall and one leg supporting me. That's as far as I've gotten.

Question 1: How can I train myself to do get into a handstand without a wall when I do not have a workout partner
Question 2: How can I get myself to stop needing the wall support

Learn to do the straddle press against the wall, and slowly work your way away.

Re: handstand help

item 1: I'm not nearly as close as I thought
item 2: the video says I need to be good at a handstand... is that where what I'm doing now with the wall comes handy? or is there a better way?

Re: handstand help

Yes, that would be why I mentioned doing the straddle press and moving out from the wall as you are able. Basically if you can get to that point solidly of doing a straddle press with the wall and free standing straddle headstands, you should have the core stabilization to be able to get a freestanding handstand.

Re: handstand help

I did my first handstand yesterday.
It only lasted maybe five seconds but my *** was over my head and I landed on my feet... a win in my book

Re: handstand help

find a place where it's safe to 'crash' and work on forward roll, then tuck and roll exit from handstand.

that was how I was taught, and it has served me well in grappling as well.
