We're putting together a website for this now. Here's a link to contact us if you're thinking of hosting a comp that day.

The TSC is a DL, strict pullup and 5 minute snatch test comp. There are elite (32kg), men's (24kg), masters (24kg)and womens (16kg) divisions. Details will follow bu contact Rob if your interested.

If your not going to be at the CF cert that weekend, you should be doing this, even if it's just at your gym/basement. If you don't do one or the other you will feel a profound feeling of being left out that weekend. Really.

Bill:

5-minute snatch test: Can you put the KB down? (If not, it will probably become the 2-minute test, for me . . .)

Yeah, it says you may set it on the floor, and even pace back and forth, as long as you are not disruptive.

2 changes

1) The elite division will do pullups w/ 10kg not 32kg. 18 strict pullups with 10kg was the test for Spetznaz. Also using the 32kg made it pure strength, basically not that far off from a 1RM for all but a very few,(and therefore duplicative of the Dl), as opposed to medium strength endurance between the Dl and the snatch test like in the other divisions.

Also there is a SoCal location and a RI location so the check the site if interested.

Bill: A couple of questions?

1) How to "register"? The site says registration by Sept 1st, but doesn't say how to do it (unless I'm missing it again, which is quite possible). Should I just send an e-mail to Tom Philips in Marlboro?

2) I don't own a KB (I know, I should get one), so my snatch technique is pretty lousy. In particular, when I've practiced with a borrowed one, I beat the heck out of my forearms at the top of the snatch (as the bell swings over). Right now, they are bruised and tender from only a few dozen snatches over the weekend.

In lieu of giving myself a fracture, can I compete with a leather forearm guard (reversed so it's on the back of the arm) to soften the pounding?

Dave

Dave

we'll have a registration form up soon

You can compete with a couple sweatbands on - which a lot competitiors do - as for the leather things, probably not but I'll get a ruling for you.

As the KB comes up don't just wait for it to flip over and kill you. Once it passes say eye level, actively punch through the handle, so your putting your arm under the KB rather then waiting for it ot slam into you.

Done a day early due to work schedule and I mixed the events slightly to get a snatch benchmark....

300-315-330 beltless sumo deadlifts
18 23# dead hang, no kip, throat touching bar pullups
25R-17L 52# GS kb snatches; finished out with 16 more reps for 58 total SS style in the 5 minute time limit.

15 minute break between events. Bodyweight 117#.

Deads were interesting; working around the still healing knee/shin injury from missing the box jump during "Kelly" forced me to use a pretty radical foot position to be able to pull with a straight bar. Not real strong, but OK considering the circumstances. Pullups were reasonable although hitting 20 would have been great. I tried 19 and got stuck just shy of the throat touch - had to kip a bit to finish so that rep didn't count. It was good to get a baseline for the snatches; I feel that if I work through a tear and my traps, shoulders and lower back aren't whining from doing 75 95# thrusters the day before I should total over 50 (looking for 60) GS reps with the 52# bell.

I was not able to compete in an official location tomorrow (Chicago) due to work schedule issues. AGAIN.
