Re: My Quest To Become an Animal - Frankel's Log

Alright, maybe I'll try that then. For now, I would hope that just doing tons of squats and deadlifts would help to strengthen the muscles in my lower legs surrounding the shins, even if its just slightly. Because I won't be running until I start doing metcons after SS. Thanks a lot for the advice

Re: My Quest To Become an Animal - Frankel's Log

July 18th

SS #6

BS 120x3x5
OHP 75x3x5
PC 80x5x3

Everything felt pretty good, although I went through it all kind of fast (45 mins or so instead of an hour), OHP was probably finished in about 7-8 mins including warmups, felt really good though. I think I may be pulling up too fast on my PC's, so I'll upload a video on the weekend.

I am happy with my BS, I'm starting to get a little up there in my weight, 2 weeks in so I'm up 30#. 3 weeks and I'll hit my old 5RM BS (165)

Also did some ring work, but nothing too strenuous. Curse my CF buddies who have been coming over lots the past week or so! Probably only about 10 MU total, like 3 dips, and 1 or 2 front lever attempts over the course of an hour or so.

Yay! I'm finally at plates on each side for a lift !

I noticed knees opened up before hips on like 2-3/5 reps just slightly, I'll have todays video sometime this week if I have time for some corrective criticism.

Looks like you are off to a good start on Starting Strength! Dont worry too much at the start if you are going through the workouts a little faster than recomended. The weight in the first three weeks is relatively light, so you wont tire out that quickly.

Keep at it, and keep a well detailed log. Someone at your age and size going through this could become the poster-boy for how well the program works!

Looking forward to following your progress! Keep it up!

Thanks so much
and yep, just gonna go with the flow see how it turns out.

Something I forgot to add to my last post is that I have only been getting 6 hours of sleep a night due to school ( I am doing an advancement sumemr course), but I finish next Friday, so after that I will hopefully be able to get more sleep.

Re: My Quest To Become an Animal - Frankel's Log

July 22nd

SS #8

BS 130x3x5 (Yay! 45 Plates on each side! [my bar weighs 40, dont ask why])
OHP 80x3x5 (Felt slower than they actually were, ill explain below)
PC 85x5x3 (Focused too much on flipping the elbows under as fast as possible, that I almost forgot to pull the bar up and came a little close to missing one rep. Wrote in my training log "forget about the damn elbow flip. Pull the hell out of the bar first"

I had a lot of energy during the session, but my OHP felt kind of slow. I know this is attributed to the fact that I went to bed at 2:30 a.m. and woke at 7:00 for school for the past 2 days (project i needed to do in order to have time to go a cottage tomorrow) plus, I have had 5-7 hours of sleep erryday since July 1st due to school. I finish a week today, so after that the speed of my press should pick up (only lift that seems to be affected).

July 25th

SS #9

BS 135x3x5
BP 100x3x5
DL 145x1x5

Everything felt good. Played around on the rings with a buddy afterwards.

- 6 MU in a row (left some in the tank, could have hit 8 or 9)
- Worked on kicking into handstand
- Did 2 (20 mins apart) ring HSPU (first ones )
- My MU is almost strict, just slight bringing forward of my legs by a couple degrees
- MU forward roll into MU

Re: My Quest To Become an Animal - Frankel's Log

July 27th

SS #10

Today had a slow start to it, but I managed to pick it up and was on fire by the end. Will link to videos once they're up.

BS 140x3x5 (Looking back, I think my stance was narrower than normal, and so I had a bit of a forward motion in order to keep the bar over my midfoot. These did not feel that great, but the speed was fine)

OHP 85x3x5 (First 2 sets were kind of slow, I was losing my balance a little, resting for awhile at the top, and the sets probably took like 20 seconds or so. but I somehow got a CRAZY adrenaline rush for my 3rd set, and knocked out all 5 reps in about 10-11 seconds, which felt soooo good!)

PC 90x3x5 (These felt super fast, and I felt like it was a breeze to get the bar up. I noticed I tore a bit of skin using hook grip [which I'm finally used to for PC and DL, yay!], I think the knurling is a litle rough. No big deal, callouses will come.)
