It was actually functional, though. Kept me in front of my computer long enough to send a proposal *and* an invoice to a client.

You proposed to someone while on this thread???? Cool!!!! I suggest y'all get married on bicycles while wearing spandex - and exchange arm warmers.

(I know what you meant, but I just couldn't resist)

A win for you, competent multitasker. This thread kept me from being productive, now I'm catching up.

Definitely think a set of arm warmers would have improved my focus on work.

Re: Who doesn't like bicycles?

On my way back from food shopping, I saw the ultimate non-spandexy cyclist. We should all aim for this elite level of sport, without succumbing to the pitfalls of expensive gear and spandex.

Sorry, no photos, but I'll try to describe what I saw....

Middle aged guy with a beard, on a bicycle, running red lights and driving in the wrong lane, wearing jeans and a t-shirt that said something about Hollywood Fitness, and smoking a cigarette. Classy, and oh so inspiring!

Wellll. I resemble that remark. But, I will preface it by saying that I roadraced for many years still instruct at many track days, so it's not that I don't like to go fast. I also (allegedly) violate many laws (mostly to do with wheelies or excessive acceleration) on an average work commute. BUT, the one thing I don't do much of is speed. It's funny that many experienced racers I know who still street ride buy light, underpowered bikes.
Plus I wear an old beat up riding aerostitch that does not look impressive at all.

In the motorcycle world, the posers are the ones who have hyper bikes (1000CC sport bikes, because you will "outgrow" a 600 too fast) and have no idea how to ride it around a corner. You can tell these guys by looking at the rear tire. If the middle is worn down but the tire is untouched 2 inches from the edge on either side (these are called "chicken strips") you have found a "squid".

I used to agree with you.

Then I moved from Ohio to Arizona.

Now I'm all for the fancy compression-fit-synthetic-sweat-wicking-$30-t-shirt. I can drench cotton in an hour in November.

Hell, i even bought a synthetic wicking baseball cap with integrated removalble neck gaiter. Stupid-looking? Yes. Do I care? No.

That said, what I haven't been able to figure out is why every single bicyclist in Tucson (and there sure are a lot of them) has to wear spandex outfits that have 17 logos and look like NASCAR. Don't they come in plain colors? Or at least... maybe just ONE logo???
