Off season: What are you going to do to be better in 2015
What are you going to do to be better either for your next event, Open, Regionals or Games.
I have been and will continue to work on my weaknesses. They are max lifts and sprint type of met cons. Rowing is a big thing for me also.. I could do way better. Its coming in the open and the master Qual so might as well get faster and/or when getting off the rower fresher and more able to transition to the next exercise. |

you mean besides training with you?... aerobic capacity is a goat for me right now, along with overhead strength. Will be adding monostructural work from now til the Open.

All I know is that my new 6 week cycle has MAP work all five training days. Once with clean and jerk, once with snatches, one mixed modal and two monostructural. Good grief. I guess we are going to prime the engine now.

Kyle, you got it within you.. just need to shut off the brain and go.. I suffer from the pacing thing as you know also.

Robert, with the way the "sport" has grown it only makes sense to have an off-season. Periodization is the only way you can keep up with the Jones' and not destroy yourself.
Vic, totally a mind over matter issue. The defeatist attitude can certainly win out too many times. |

Anyone spending time on working on the mental part of competing?
I see many mental errors during the competitions I've been at. Equipment prep, setting strategy for a WOD, nutrition during the event, recovery strategies between WODs. |

Scott,
Mental training is about 25% of it. Listening to your body and mind and giving it rest, or pushing harder. I have been working on the last 60 seconds of each Met con.. pushing it harder than usual. I have a fast recovery and I tend to pace events (besides wheel house workouts). So I have to push harder than in the past. Understanding that its just crossfit and I need to keep God, family, friends and career in balance. Re: Off season: What are you going to do to be better in 2015
I intend to cut weight back to what I weighed last open and ideally a good amount less.
That's it. Maybe I'll hit the track more (but this could be erratic while it's winter) or walk more. Maybe I'll incorporate more metabolic work (don't count on this). I will probably do Double-Unders better as I'm gonna get a CF rope and some better shoes than WL shoes besides the reduction in unwanted BW (fat). DU were better in cons but they still seem to be uncomfortable in the toes. I did row a 1:33 500m the other day but I'm pretty sure the rower is off on the settings. My legs were fairly fresh as I had not squatted and it was windy but I doubt that is correct (also non C2 Rower). I imagine and hope that my pull and grip strength will come back in due time as well. Or I'm buggered. |
