Is CrossFit a new gym or old gym?

Thought some of you may be interested in seeing what the gyms looked like in 1927, a YMCA in NY. This would make a great CrossFit gym today. Maybe the coach is older than he looks and just reached back into his childhood and recreated a warm and friendly place.

Re: Is CrossFit a new gym or old gym?

The Globogyms of today are a true representation of weakness in our modern society. And if that is not bad enough there is now or new video game called *** *** that tells people they can exercise at home in front of there TV. I overheard someone i work with explaining how it is as good as going to the gym (maybe the way most people train). Really had to bite my tongue. As if most people need an excuse to face that box anymore!!

Anyway back to the 1927 YMCA. FANTASTIC!!!

Love the rope ladders, I may have to whistle one up this weekend...it would look great in one of the trees behind my place.

Re: Is CrossFit a new gym or old gym?

I actually had the pleasure of working out in that gym. It was a YMCA until 2001 or 02. That room was still dedicated to gymnastics! Although at the time the program was in jeopardy, as someone had broken their neck and the powers that be were re-thinking.

I think it's an Equinox now. Sad.

Re: Is CrossFit a new gym or old gym?

What are those ladder type things on the side walls of old gyms called? I see them in pictures of old gyms and in pictures of gyms from other countries but I can only recall seeing them once in the US in my lifetime, in the gym at a private school I briefly attended as a kid. We used to climb up them all the time and the PE teacher would yell at us to get down.
