Pro athletes in the CF games

http://games.crossfit.com/features/v...phaidra-knight wfs

Unfortunately most people probably don't even know that we have a women's national rugby team (now you do! yay!). They're currently ranked 5th in the world.

I played against Phaidra a few times last fall. She is a BEAST! Super nice lady, too.

It'll be interesting to see how a pro rugby player fairs in the games...

I think rugby players are some of the best overall athletes in the world in ANY sport. They hit as hard as the NFL, and have the endurance of soccer players. Amazing....

The hits are not as consistently as hard as the NFL. There would be dozens of deaths per year if that were so.

Also, aren't the US National rugby teams amateurs? (not paid professionals)

The hits are just as hard, rugby players just avoid leading with their heads and are required to wrap.

They do get paid, just not very much.

With the purse being what it is, this year's and any future winners could also be considered "pro."

i personally think an aussie rules football player is considered fitter than a rugby player. a midfielder runs over 20kms a game wich is sprint jog sprint jog. takes hard hits and tackles really hard aswell.

buttt i aim biased im off to play footy catchya's wish me luck

I remember Sports Science determined football players hit harder, but they don't deliver as many hits like that in a game. Meanwhile rugby players don't hit as hard (because they aren't wearing body armor) but deliver 10x the amount of hits in a game.

I'm not talking about the US team, that's like putting the New York Yankees against the Little League World Champs.

They also just said the GSP hits harder than Rampage and half the HW divison in the UFC. I don't trust them to much.

Re: Pro athletes in the CF games

I love it when people claim that the sport they play hosts the bests athletes in the world. Give me a break.

Soccer players are the best athletes because it's the most competitive sport in the world.

NFL players are the best athletes because of the ridiculous speed and strength they have--and yeah - the average NFL running-back is both faster and stronger than the average Elite level international rugby player; I'd bet my life on it.

Swimmers are the best in the world because yadayadayada.

It's not the sport that makes the athlete. It's a combination of training and genes. And mostly genes.
